Rapid prototyping involves many different methods to create a prototype efficiently. Processes such as high-speed CNC milling, SLA, SLS, LOM, 3D printing, Z-Cast and SLM technologies are involved. This technology is not restricted to just prototyping, but is also used in the manufacturing process, for example, inserts for injection moulds, patterns, models, press tooling and even the finished product itself.

Today's technology allows progression directly from a CAD model to a plastic or metal component.  Rapid prototyping techniques offer form, function and fit trials to take place either prior to, or in conjunction with production runs. The need to produce extra tooling just for a single prototype can now be eradicated.  Finding faults in products prior to manufacture can have enormous benefits
